Add attribute auto-suggest and auto-complete option

Sometimes you have far too many attributes to put them in a list or even a dropdown.

In those cases, providing a list of 10 with a text-box above to type into would make things quicker for users of that site.

Users would type in the text box and the list below will automatically update based on the search query. The user can then click on any of the items.

It would also auto-complete to the most likely search result (the top 1 from the list) and if the user hits enter it would be the same as clicking that top result.

Allow searching of tags, categories and everything else in wp_terms

I’ve had a request to allow Super Speedy Search to search wp_terms and wp_termmeta.

This would be to search Product categories, subcategories, tags and attributes – the plugin would still be searching for ‘posts/products’ (whatever custom post type) but would bring back more items that match these tags, attributes and categories.

Some work is required in order to integrate these properly into the search results. i.e. currently, search results have a ‘relevancy score’ which is v useful to show most relevant items at the top.

What I’m proposing to add is to merge any products which have tags, attributes, categories that fuzzy match the search string – if these are new products, add them in with a score of 0.5, if they already exist, add 0.5 to their current score. This will need to be tweaked until it’s working well.

Add friendly URLs to FWW

Add friendly URLs for attributes. Can use URL rewrites to implement this and when option is selected, send users to full friendly URL.

  1. Add URL rewrites to rewrite from slug of attribute to parameterised search.
  2. Add option to backend admin screen to enable friendly URLs
  3. URL structure needs to be unique – e.g. /product-category/clothing/brand/paul-smith/. If 2 or more attribute filters (brands) are selectable, some identifier is required e.g /product-category/clothing/f/brand/paul-smith/guess/ – otherwise there could theoretically be a brand called ‘brand’ which would break things.
  4. Ensure canonical URL points to the friendly URL
  5. Add friendly URL output into widget links

Allow control of brackets in product counts

A customer has requested to be able to eliminate the brackets before and after the product counts.

I would implement this using CSS – i.e. I’ll remove the ( and ) from the HTML and instead add the ( and ) using :before and :after CSS which then would give the ability to eliminate these brackets completely and/or style them at will.

Allow dynamic/parameterised images

Rather than using CSS to control the sizes of images, some providers run timthumb or similar image sizing if parameters are passed to an image.

e.g.

http://hanwanggou.oss-cn-shanghai.aliyuncs.com/2017/07/A201602242271592361090.jpg This is the picture source file address

x-oss-process = image / resize, m_lfit, w_120, limit_1 / auto-orient, 0 This is the function of the host to process pictures, according to different values automatically handle the image size display.

As the following example:

http://hanwanggou.oss-cn-shanghai.aliyuncs.com/2017/07/A201602242271592361090.jpg?x-oss-process=image/resize,m_lfit,w_120,limit_1/auto-orient,0
http://hanwanggou.oss-cn-shanghai.aliyuncs.com/2017/07/A201602242271592361090.jpg?x-oss-process=image/resize,m_lfit,w_200,limit_1/auto-orient,0
http://hanwanggou.oss-cn-shanghai.aliyuncs.com/2017/07/A201602242271592361090.jpg?x-oss-process=image/resize,m_lfit,w_800,limit_1/auto-orient,0

An easy solution for this would be to allow users to specify different images for thumbnails vs full size images.

Add Price Alerts, Price History and Cron price-checking

This is a feature I really want to see myself, but some customers have also requested something similar too now.

When a customer is using Price Comparison Pro in a particular niche, it would be particularly beneficial to their users to be able to enter their email address and receive price alerts when the price drops or rises (configurable).

This would massively increase engagement, since users would be able to receive price alerts across multiple merchants from our customers niche website. It would increase signups to their newsletter at the same time as I’d see that as an option we’d want to include (i.e include MailPoet/MailChimp integration)

Price Alerts require a cron job to check the prices on a regular, configurable basis. A customer has requested cron-based price checking, not for price alerts, but for the ability to ensure their WooCommerce ‘cheapest’ price remains up to date. I’ve given them a workaround for this at the moment, but having a cron job would be great for this.

At the same time, storing and visualising price history would enable the price alerts – e.g. showing a little graph next to the prices from each merchant – when you hover over it, it could show prices and date the price was obtained. The reason I feel this is linked/connected, is because cron underlies all of this and because seeing a changeable graph would likely initiate the user to sign up for price alerts.

For example, the Yeti Microphone which I regularly use as a demo product for Price Comparison Pro – a month ago, Amazon dropped the price down to £79. It’s back up to £99 now and still at £119 many places. A price alert from the niche website would have covered this price drop from 6 merchants.

On top of that, the benefits for my customers are large in that with price alerts, their users are then going to come back to my customers website and click through THEIR affiliate links which should significantly increase their affiliate revenue.

If anyone has any additional comments to add to this, please add them!
